The Department of Public Administration (IAN) of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS) of Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) held two important activities in order to support the internationalization of Universitas Negeri Padang and increase understanding of the Rohingya refugee issue.
Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with UNHCR
On Monday, March 25, 2024, IAN FIS UNP held an FGD with the theme “Handling Rohingya Refugees in Aceh”. The FGD was attended by the Dean and Vice Dean of FIS UNP, as well as heads of departments within FIS, lecturers, and education staff. The main speaker in this FGD was Mr. Erik Ramadhanil, UNHCR envoy (Pekanbaru Office).
In this FGD, the participants discussed various aspects of handling Rohingya refugees in Aceh, including challenges and opportunities. Mr. Erik Ramadhanil shared his experience and knowledge about UNHCR's work in assisting Rohingya refugees.
This FGD activity is expected to increase the participants' understanding of the Rohingya refugee issue and encourage cooperation between UNP and UNHCR in efforts to assist Rohingya refugees in Indonesia.
Public Lecture on Advocacy for Rohingya Refugee Protection Policy
In addition to the FGD, IAN FIS UNP also organized a public lecture for FIS UNP students with the theme “Policy Advocacy for the Provision of Rohingya Refugee Protection in Indonesia”. This public lecture was attended by heads of departments within FIS, lecturers, education staff, and faculty leaders.
The resource person in this public lecture was Mr. Erik Ramadhanil, Senior Protection Assistant from UNHCR (Pekanbaru Office). In his material, Mr. Erik Ramadhanil explained the importance of policy advocacy to protect Rohingya refugees in Indonesia.
This public lecture is expected to raise students' awareness about the Rohingya refugee issue and motivate them to get involved in policy advocacy to protect Rohingya refugees in Indonesia.
